Frequently asked questions
Do I need to attend the entire workshop?
Yes. For the in-person workshop, you must attend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For the e-learning course, you must complete all modules. This is required to receive your HUD certificate.
Will I get a certificate right away?
Certificates are issued after you finish the workshop and complete a short survey.
Can couples register together?
Yes. Couples can register jointly. A credit report/application fee may apply for each person.
Is the e-learning course as valid as the in-person class?
Yes. Both options meet HUD requirements and result in the same certificate.
What’s the biggest mistake first-time buyers make?
Many people focus only on the monthly mortgage payment. In reality, you’ll need to plan for closing costs, maintenance, taxes, and insurance. Our workshop helps you look at the full picture so you can buy with confidence.
Can I buy a home if my credit isn’t perfect?
Yes. Lenders look at more than just your credit score. Our counselors help you understand how your credit history, income, and savings all fit together—and we’ll give you strategies to strengthen your financial profile.
Do I need a 20% down payment?
No. Many first-time homebuyer programs in the Bay Area offer down payment assistance, sometimes covering most or all of the required amount. We’ll explain which programs you may qualify for and how to apply.
How long does it usually take to be ready to buy?
Every situation is different. Some people are ready immediately after the workshop; others take several months to build savings or improve credit. We offer ongoing support so you can move at the pace that’s right for you.
Does this workshop cover the Bay Area market specifically?
Yes. We focus on local resources, programs, and realities of buying in the Bay Area, so the information you receive is relevant to your situation.
How does RNHS support me after I get the certificate?
We don’t stop at the classroom. You can meet one-on-one with a HUD-certified counselor, get matched with a trusted Realtor, and continue working with us to stay on track through closing and beyond.
